There were a couple of different Mega Drive Control Pads around when the Mega Drive was first released.
The standard Mega Drive controller has 3 main buttons and a "start" button which is mainly used for pausing during a game. The controller itself has a lovely rounded shape. Sega later released a 6 button controller which is slightly smaller and features 3 more face buttons, similar to the design of buttons on arcade fighting games.
