The NES Control Pad featured a rectangular like design with a neat four button layour: 2 buttons labelled A and B, a START button and a SELECT button. These were state of the art at the time and brought in to replace bulky joysticks which were prone to breaking as well as being stupidly bulky.
They are also have a cross shaped D pad which has gone on to be used on famous control pads such as Playstation and Xbox.
